Earthquakes, Hurricanes, But Not the End of the World as We Know it

The girls are safely back from Phoenix, the kitchen remodel is about 90% finished and yet the earth still shakes!! After surviving ice storms, tornados, and two blizzards of historical proportions, we assumed that we were done with the natural disasters that we were told "never" happen in D.C. Liars!!!

First: the 6.0 earthquake that didn't do a dang thing. The internet meme going around after the earthquake involved people blogging and tweeting pictures of the devastation. My favorites were those with crooked pictures or tipped over water bottles. Behold our devastation!

This was our Earthquake

And our Hurricane

To be honest the earthquake was slightly scarier than the Hurricane, but only slightly. If somebody hadn't told me there were two natural "disasters" I would've thought we had just had a normal rainy weekend with a little more wind than usual. However, the earthquake did provide a little excitement for the girls.  Bryn had just settled down for a nap in her crib when Jen felt the house start to shake. She bolted up and ran for the nearest doorway before remembering her child in the back room. She then sprinted into Bryn's room, scooped up the bewildered child, and rushed to the doorway. By the time she got there the earthquake was over so they made their way outside where she met up with a few of our confused neighbors. I on the other hand was sitting outside and felt the ground shake. Seeing a large semi truck driving through the neighborhood I deduced that the slight tremble I felt was not dissimilar to the movement of a bridge when a heavy truck passes over it. I commented to my buddy that "trucks that large shouldn't be driving in neighborhoods like this." Moments later thousands of students came sprinting out of the law school whereupon my group of beer loving buddies reasoned that the best thing to do in our situation, was to head to the bar and catch happy hour!! Only a bunch of lawyers would think about drinking immediately after an earthquake.
