The Greatest Dirt on Earth

If you don't believe that Monticello (particularly Grandma Steph's backyard) has the greatest dirt on earth, then you can just ask these two little hooligans who did nothing but play in it non-stop the entire weekend. They used rakes, shovels, and even their bare hands at times, moving dirt from one place to the next. By the end of the day, Bryn had even managed to take home half the dirt pile in her boots and hair. Had it not been the middle of October and slightly chilly, we would have just hosed them off on the front porch rather and create a ring of dirt around the bath tub.

And no adventure would be complete without a trip to feed the horses. Grandad was even lucky enough to find that the water level on the the troughs raised a little bit while the kids were there. This may or may not be due to the fact that every rock they found had to be tossed in the water.

Once we started having children, Nate and I have vowed that our kids will come and spend a couple of weeks in Monticello learning and appreciating the hard work that goes on at a farm. We want to do this so a) my parents can see the kids b) we can go on vacation and c) to punish them so they realize how easy life is in the city. However, after watching Bryn down there we might be re-thinking the whole thing. She would enjoy those two weeks of doing farm chores way too much defeating the whole purpose of going down there.
