Twighlight

For all of you who are hoping that this is a salacious tale about my undying love for sparkly vampires and shape shifters. . . you should just stop reading right now or you most likely will be disappointed. When comparing the town of Monticello to other places, more often than not, Monticello comes up lacking in many categories. However, there is one category in which Monticello excels: open spaces. After living in a large city for the past few years, I had forgotten how peaceful wide open spaces can be. The dry windy desert I remembered from my high school days, suddenly became a lot more beautiful. It is a nice reminder that there are still places in this world not overrun with people, where stars seem to shine extra bright, and there are miles in between houses.

On this particular evening, we went out so the kids could see the horses. We made our way down to the barn below the house. The sun seemed to exude tranquility while sinking behind the Blue Mountains leaving a purplish orange hue stretching across the horizon. A slight breeze made the sage brush dance in the open fields. And just like that, all my thoughts, concerns, and to-do lists flew out the door and a feeling of peace and contentment filled my soul. All of a sudden, everything else seemed a little less important. It was my favorite time of day. It was twighlight.
