Happy Birthday Jen!! And of course a very happy 235th to the US of A!
It seemed like we'd only been back from vacation for a few days when a few well known faces showed up at Union Station. Sister Cannon and Grandma Steph showed up for a post mission visit and spent the 4th of July with us. It was so great to see both of them! They got us up and going to see all of the sites, but I think their favorite site of all was the Arlington Costco and their Gelato. As far as we know they might be the only Costco in the country who serves Gelato. I'm sure there are others, but we haven't seen any in DC or Utah, which really is too bad because it ranks among the best gelato we've ever had and ranks behind only Italy, France, and the Venetian hotel in quality.
Jen may have been a little spoiled on her birthday, especially when you consider the fact that we had decided to forgo Mother's Day, Father's Day, Our Anniversary, and Birthdays to help pay for our European vacation. But, in true fashion, Jen was spoiled on her special day. After dropping a not so subtle hint, and perhaps not fully understanding the actual cost of a camera lens, she got her wish. A wide angle lens for her new dSLR camera. While the lens isn't technically a "wide-angle" or fisheye lens, we decided to pick up the relatively new 15-80mm Canon lens (for those of you who speak fancy camera it is a f/3.5-5.5 IS lens.) Contrary to the detractors out there this lens has really been amazing. It's been useful for all applications, and has even produced some great night shots despite its relative slow speed and variable focal length. All of our Hilton Head pictures were taken with this lens and it is now on our camera about 90% of the time. We even liked it better than our lone prime lens (50mm 1.8) when photographing this years fireworks.
Enough geeky camera tech talk. Now on to the pictures!

It seems that our many adventures finally caught up with little Brynlee. Although she likes to think
that she's already an independent young woman, she still needs her mom when times get tough.
She woke up on the morning of the 4th and felt a little warm to the touch, but nothing crazy.
So we headed out on the town. As the day progressed she got warmer and warmer until it was
apparent that she definitely had a fever. We initially thought she had come down with the flu, but
now that a few days have gone by, we now attribute her 24 hour fever to exhaustion. We put her to bed
that night when we got home and after we took Mary and Steph to the train the next morning, Bryn
spent the next few days sleeping. She wouldn't get up before 9 a.m. and never took a nap shorter
than 4 hours. But after a few days of some good rest, she's back to normal once again. Although
we did get a little worried when she slept until 11:30 today. Poor girl was just exhausted. Looks
like we'll have to take it easy for a while around here.
Happy 4th of July Everyone!!
