Hilton Head, SC

Next stop on the summer itinerary: Hilton Head, South Carolina.

One of the many perks of having such great parents are job-related summer activities. When we were kids our family always attended Lagoon Day for my Mom's home health care company. These days we benefit from my Dad's Stadium Mangaer's Association conferences. As a result of his affiliation, we wound up in Hitlon Head for a fun-filled weekend.

As many of you know by now, we could definitely be described as beach junkies. A large majority of our vacations are centered around sunshine, sand, and waves. One consequence of our slight beach-obsession is that we have become rather insufferable beach snobs. It is with this background that we would like to announce our highest made-up honor of best beach in America award! Congratulations Hilton Head on this prestigious achievement!! Simply put, Hilton Head is amazing.  For those of you keeping score, our best beach list goes something like this (we have excluded beaches in Tahiti because it just wouldn't be fair to the other less-appealing locations)

1- Tortola, British Virgin Islands
2- Tulum, near Cancun, Mexico
3- Hilton Head, SC
4- Barbados
5- Key West, Florida
6- Waiamea, Oahu
7- Maui
8- Ocean City, MD
9- Myrtle Beach, SC

As you can see, Hilton Head ranks above just heavy favorites as Key West and the Hawaiian islands. Just take a look, it really was different than anything we had pictured about the east coast.

The best thing about Hilton Head may have been that the hotels were set a ways back
from the beach and non were over 15 stories or so, unlike Ocean City and Myrtle Beach.

We spent our time here just relaxing on the beach, enjoying amazing dinners that were in themselves more expensive than our entire month's budget for groceries (thankfully the dinners were all picked up by the conference organizers). Among our many adventures in HH were...

Splashing and Digging,

Pointing
and
Reading

(If you can't tell by the look on her face,
the answer is Yes. Bryn loves to read.)

We also played with boats,                                             and treated sunburns.

But the best part of the trip was just spending time with
the grandparents. Miss B can't get enough of her Grandma
and she's warming up to that gruff old Grandpa too.

But the pool was fun too.

And so was spending time with Mom.

One of the coolest parts of HH was the historic harbor town. You had to pay a fee to get into the area, but it was well worth the $5. You take this trolley ride into the harbor town and you're immediately greeted with eclectic shops, delicious smelling restaurants, and beautiful views all around.

B hammed it up in her rocking-boat. We would've brought it home if it wasn't $400.

We just love this pic! Look at both of their little tongues wagging. This girl has too much personality!

The entire town was a quasi-nature preserve with crabs, deer, and these really cool old trees.
